Open the GoPro app and tap on the camera icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. Now tap on the blue button in the center of the screen: Control Your GoPro. Scroll through the icons on the bottom of the screen, and tap on Live. Now tap on Set Up Live.

Social media networks have expanded to support streaming from all kinds of devices, including live streaming directly from the GoPro Hero 7, 8, or MAX. Streaming to multiple social networks from your GoPro or another mobile device can come with its challenges, though, as most apps do not support streaming to.
  • Live streaming is best done using your smartphone, but the GoPro is a better choice in some applications. It therefore only makes sense live stream with your GoPro if you are doing anything more adventurous (like skateboarding or dirt biking, for example). Anyway, here are some ways to live stream using your GoPro HERO.

Live Stream to GoPro with a GoPro Subscription

If you are a GoPro subscriber, you can now create a private link to your live stream! This link can be shared to anyone you feel comfortable viewing.

Live Streaming to Facebook

Stream directly to your Facebook profile and Facebook pages using the GoPro app and camera. If you'd like to stream to a Facebook group or Workplace by Facebook, use the RTMP method outlined below.
Heads Up: You need to use the GoPro app to set up live streaming.
  1. Open the GoPro app and tap on the camera icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  2. Now tap on the blue button in the center of the screen: Control Your GoPro.
  3. Scroll through the icons on the bottom of the screen, and tap on Live.
  4. Now tap on Set Up Live.
  5. A new screen appears with a list of streaming platforms. Tap Facebook.
  1. Allow permissions and connect your Facebook account.
  1. Another screen appears to set up live stream. At the top, choose to connect a Wi-Fi network or your mobile hotspot.
  2. Choose your sharing settings in the dropdown menu. This is where you choose to stream on a Facebook profile (Public, Friends, Only Me) or the dropdown menu will feature the Facebook Page(s) that you are an admin of.
  3. Give your stream a title and a short description.
  4. Choose the resolution you want: 480p, 720p or 1080p (1080p only available with HERO8 Black and MAX)
PRO TIP: Use 1080p for the best quality. 720p may be best if you’re using a mobile hotspot. Try lower resolutions if bandwidth or data are weak, or if you want to save storage space on your SD card.
Heads Up: If the signal strength of your data connection weakens, the video stream bit rate will automatically lower for the selected resolution.
  1. Choose your save settings (you can save a high-res version of your stream to your SD card).
  2. Tap 'Set Up Live Stream.'

PRO TIP: Experiment with different mounts and angles, then frame your shot before you go LIVE. Make sure your camera is upright before streaming. If you turn your camera upside down, your live stream footage will appear upside down.

Live Streaming to YouTube

Stream directly to YouTube using the GoPro app and your camera.
Heads Up: YouTube requires channels to have at least 1,000 subscribers in order to live stream from a mobile device to their platform. If you meet this criteria, you will need to enable live streaming on your YouTube channel. This can take up to 24 hours to activate.
  1. Open the GoPro app and tap on the camera icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  2. Now tap on the blue button in the center of the screen: Control Your GoPro.
  3. Scroll through the icons on the bottom of the screen, and tap on Live.
  4. Now tap on Set Up Live.
  5. A new screen appears with a list of streaming platforms. Tap YouTube.

Live Streaming Using an RTMP URL

You can live stream to certain social platforms using an RTMP URL.
Compatible platforms in the U.S. include:
  • Workplace by Facebook
  • Facebook Group(s)
  • Twitch

Compatible platforms in China include:
  • Huya
  • DouYu
  • Bilibili
  • Inke

Heads Up: The following sites don’t support GoPro live streaming: Instagram, YY, NOW, QQ
Instructions:
  1. Visit your live streaming platform.
  2. Follow their instructions to create an RTMP or RTMPS URL combined with your stream name/key (click Reveal to see this). You will need to have both lines combined into one with a '/' in the middle.

How do I delete my live stream?

1. Go to gopro.com
2. Log into your account
3. Navigate to your media library and click 'Shared links' on the left side bar
4. Find your live stream and click the thumbnail
5. Under the video is a button with three dots, click that button and you will see a delete option

When will streaming to Twitch be available on Android?

Twitch on Android is coming soon, so stay tuned! In the meantime, you can use the RTMP URL setup to stream to Twitch.

How do I live stream using my mobile hotspot?

  1. Make sure you have a cellular plan that lets you use your phone as a hotspot.
  2. From the Live Stream Setup screen, select Turn On Personal Hotspot and follow the steps to connect.
Heads Up: It may take a minute for your hotspot to appear after you turn it on. Wait a moment and then select your hotspot when it shows up in the menu.
  1. Stay within range of your hotspot during your live streaming session.

Why does my stream look choppy on Facebook or other live streaming sites?

  1. For the highest-quality stream, use a Wi-Fi network (rather than a personal hotspot) whenever possible. This will help avoid stuttering or choppiness in your stream.
  2. If you stream from a personal hotspot, make sure you have strong cellular coverage and a data plan that lets you stream from a hotspot and provides adequate data rates.

Can I live stream using my mobile phone?

Gopro Live Stream Facebook

Yes, if you use your mobile phone as a hotspot. Your GoPro needs to be connected directly to Wi-Fi (e.g. home/work Wi-Fi or mobile hotspot). Using a personal hotspot can cause additional charges with your wireless provider.

Why can I only stream directly to Facebook and YouTube?

You can stream to other platforms (Twitch, Vimeo, INKE, HUYA, DOOYU, BILIBI, YY) using an RTMP URL. We are currently looking to add more platforms for direct live streaming in the future.

Why can’t I stream to YouTube?

If you enabled live streaming on your YouTube channel, it can take up to 24 hours for it to be activated. If you still can’t live stream, check your YouTube account to make sure you haven’t been banned or blocked from live streaming. Also, YouTube requires channels to have at least 1,000 subscribers to be eligible to live stream from a mobile device to their platform. How much data is used when streaming from a mobile hotspot?

When streaming from a personal hotspot, you can expect to use up to 2GB of data per hour.
